As the UK’s only surviving inside-cylinder 4-6-0, the B12 is a truly unique and special locomotive. The class saw work on frontline passenger trains throughout their lives, and earned the respect of both enthusiasts and railwaymen alike. Today no. 8572 is the jewel in the crown of the M&GN Joint Railway Society and the flagship locomotive of the North Norfolk Railway. After being saved from the cutter’s torch, the engine first steamed in preservation in 1994. In 2008, the engine was withdrawn from traffic for a four year overhaul before returning to steam in March 2012, resplendent in her stunning Apple Green livery.

The name of the club comes from the 260 mile ‘Wandering 1500’ railtour our B12 hauled in 1963, which was organised by the then embryonic M&GN Joint Railway Society and was the first ever railtour to be hauled by a privately owned locomotive in Britain.

Members of the Wandering 1500 Club have been a major contribution to keeping 8572 'on the road' for the past twenty years, why not join them?
