Volunteering
Members of the Society are encouraged to
take an active role in the Society's activities. Many
members also work as volunteers on the Poppy Line-the Railway only
has around 30 paid staff, so well over 90% of the jobs on
the line are done by volunteers.
Society volunteers play a vital part in the
loco and carriage and wagons workshops, restoring and maintaining our
precious vehicles.
Also volunteers are needed to help staff the
Society's
William Marriott Museum, to
run the Society's shop at Weybourne Station, and to assist
in the administration of the Society.
If you would like more information about
becoming a Society volunteer please email
The Railway needs guards, travelling ticket
inspectors, signalmen (and women), booking clerks and
station staff, as well as engine cleaners, firemen (and
women) and
drivers. There is more information about volunteering on the
Railway on our sister NNR
site
Even if you can only commit
to a few hours or days a month, come and join us! Enjoy
making new friends, developing new interests, and being
a vital player in the team that’s keeping such an
important part of Norfolk’s heritage alive. Many
of the jobs do not call for specialist railway skills,
and in every case full training and mentoring is given
by current volunteers.

Junior Club
The Junior Club is a
meeting place for young railway enthusiasts aged between
10 - 15 (subject to parental consent).
In the club's meetings, members are given the chance to
experience aspects of the Railway that they would not
otherwise have access to.
For example, engine cleaning,
trackside work and work on the engines. Also in the Junior
Club, members have the opportunity to learn more about the
Railway in general, including signalling, guard duties,
track maintenance, how steam engines work etc.
The Club is open to children between the ages of 10
and 15, subject to parental consent

Junior Club Website |
